Introduction

Young people all over the world are acting to adapt and respond to climate change impacts. The Glasgow-Sharm el-Sheikh work programme will reach its conclusion at COP28 after two years of workshops to operationalise the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA). This event, hosted by SLYCAN Trust Youth, will provide a platform for meaningful engagement between young people, negotiators and key stakeholders on the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA) and its framework.

The event aims to identify the issues of most importance to young people, and to explore ways to integrate youth priorities into the upcoming negotiations. Discussion will focus on the role of inclusion in the GGA framework, with a particular focus on youth. SLYCAN Trust Youth will welcome negotiators and key stakeholders from multilateral bodies and civil society alongside youth negotiators and interested young people.

Objectives

  • To raise awareness of the GGA and its processes among young people and to gain their active engagement prior to COP28.
  • To identify key priorities that would be important for youth, and how to integrate them into the upcoming negotiations and key moments.
  • To enhance consideration of inclusion within the elements of the GGA framework, with a specific focus on youth and stakeholder engagement.
  • To map the role and significance of youth and inclusion in the GGA framework, and to share this with negotiators and key stakeholders.
