Introduction

SLYCAN Trust is hosting a two-day planning workshop for agriculture and food systems experts, bringing together scholars and researchers from Sri Lankan academia. The event aims to achieve the following objectives:

Objectives

  • Prioritising key thematic focuses relevant to sustainable, ethical, and climate-smart food systems, including plant-based alternative protein sources, climate and disaster risk management in food systems, and food system entrepreneurship.
  • Providing review inputs for research milestones to ensure the quality and relevance of the conducted research.
  • Contributing as a technical expert in your respective areas to enhance the depth and accuracy of the research.
  • Enhancing the quality of the research by addressing key challenges and opportunities within specified thematic areas related to agriculture and food systems.
  • Fostering interdisciplinary collaboration to enrich the research with a holistic perspective on interconnected issues within food systems.

Participants

Participants include experts in the fields of agriculture and food systems nominated by Sri Lankan universities under the guidance of deans and department heads. This gathering of nominated experts marks their inaugural collaboration, fostering discussions on Sri Lanka’s current research landscape in agriculture and food systems, identifying gaps and proposing potential research areas for 2024.
