Uganda

Uganda is a landlocked country in East Africa with a population of almost 46 million people. The country has a tropical equatorial climate with two rainy seasons, but different regions experience varying temperatures and rainfall patterns. Agriculture is the main economic sector and employs approximately 70% of the working population. Uganda is highly vulnerable to climate change impacts and is faced with floods, droughts, erratic rainfall patterns, earthquakes, landslides, and other natural, social, political, and economic shocks. Climate change impacts worsen poverty, destroy homes, property, and infrastructure, lead to food insecurity, cause migration, and increase incidences of diseases, particularly in the most vulnerable communities.Human mobility in Uganda can be categorized into two aspects: external and internal. Rising temperatures and unpredictable rainfall patterns are water insecurity, declining soil productivity, and loss of livelihoods, which in turns forces people to migrate internally. Most of the mobility in Uganda is internal, with an increase in rural-urban migration among youth due to the high rate of unemployment in rural areas. In addition, different forms of mobility (both internal and external) are widely used as coping and adaptation mechanisms to livelihood stressors.
