SLYCAN Trust’s Oceans Work Programme explores the interlinkages between oceans, coastal and marine ecosystems, climate change, biodiversity, maritime governance, security, finance, and sustainable development. The programme focuses on understanding emerging challenges, governance processes, and opportunities to support sustainable and resilient ocean futures.
Areas of work include ocean governance, marine biodiversity, blue economy pathways, maritime security, shipping and decarbonisation, coastal resilience, blue carbon ecosystems, marine pollution, climate-related maritime risks, and just transitions within maritime and coastal sectors. The programme also engages with international and multilateral policy processes related to oceans, climate change, biodiversity, and sustainable development.
Through research, analysis, dialogue, partnerships, and multi-stakeholder engagement, the programme contributes to knowledge generation and more inclusive and coherent approaches to ocean governance. It further explores pathways for ecosystem conservation and restoration, sustainable maritime transitions, and strengthening the resilience of coastal communities and livelihoods.
